Generally, the hobby breeder does not breed for profit; instead, they do it for the genuine love and perfection of helping develop the finest canine specimens of it breed. Consequently, you can be confident of a basenji bred with the best quality -- possible.
The basenji could really be considered more like a cat than a dog. Not only is it the only breed of dog that does not bark, but is also a meticulous cleaner. Unlike other dogs, the basenji actually licks itself clean, just like a cat!
