How to Choose a Great Basenji

Finding a new (DOG or puppy) addition to your family is similar to searching for the ideal life partner. Since you are selecting a living being that will spend its waking hours with you and your family for the rest of your life, many considerations should be weighed.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the smallest dog on record was a yorkshire terrier in Great Britain who, at the age of 2, weighed just 4 ounces. However, the chihuahua is generally the smallest breed of dog.

The first step to finding the perfect puppy or DOG is to spend time with it. The way a basenji interacts with you. Do you want an aggressive canine or a more submissive basenji? Moreover, a basenji that is attentive to you is more apt to be in tuned with your expectations. Watch the basenjis response to you help you to determine your compatibility.

The name bernese mountain dog is a rough translation of the German "berner sennenhund", which literally means "bernese alpine herdsman's dog". The breed's original name was "durrbachler", after an inn where these farm dogs were bought and sold.

Although a certain degree of apprehension on the prospective new, family member is expected, as long as a bond is forged when you handle him or her. The canine should be receptive to your hand gestures, voice or interaction. An overly aggressive, shy or traumatized basenji is a sign of a canine that will require special training and attention. If you have the time, money and energy to habituate a potentially problematic basenji, it will prove to be demanding.

The boxer breed was so named for his manner of fighting. As opposed to biting, like most dogs would, a boxer will actually begin a fight by "punching" with its front paws, just liek a human boxer.

Check out the basenjis mobility, movement and coordination. Canines exhibiting alert, responsive and balanced movement tend to be healthy. Limping and hesitant movements can be signs of other health issues. Your prospective new basenji should demonstrate a little interest in you.

The German Shepherd Dog is also known as the Alsatian, or Deutsche Schaferhund. Rin Tin Tin, probably the most famous American German Shepherd, was actually born in France in September of 1918 and then brought to America later.

Use the following checklist to conduct a thorough physical inspection

Basset hounds are fabulous at hunting and they make wonderful companion dogs. However, even with those great qualities, basset hounds are horrible swimmers! Their legs are simply too small to keep their heavy, long bodies afloat properly.

-- Examine the basenji from its nose to its tail. -- Evaluate the basenjis stationary stance -- Look for lucid eyes -- The coat should appear shiny, luster and clean -- Make sure the gums are pink and healthy -- Check the basenjis stomach for any unusual bulges (could be an indication of a worms, bloating or a hernia)

While most dogs shed, poodles are actually incapable of shedding. That fact makes them excellent house pets, since they don't get the furniture covered in fur. Also, due to the nature of their fur and the fact that they do not shed, most people with dog allergies aren't allergic to poodles.
