How to Crate Train Your Basenji

Crate training is generally considered one of the fastest, and best, ways you can train your puppy to teach them not to go to the bathroom in the house. Crate training takes advantage of one of the strong instincts of your basenji: that they will not go to the bathroom in their own personal space if it can be avoided. Having a crate for your puppy will then mean that it will hold when it wants to go to the bathroom. Pay attention to your puppy's behavior and when they get finicky, you can put your puppy on a leash and take it outside.

The Japanese Chin, also known as the Japanese Spaniel, is considered to be one of the most cat-like of the dog breeds when it comes to attitude. It is alert, intelligent, and often independent. Also, like a cat, it uses its paws to wash its face.

This is a good time to use positive reinforcement so your basenji will learn that this is a good action. Every time you take your puppy out to go to the bathroom, give a treat and praise every time your puppy does so. This will help reinforce that outside is the place to go to the bathroom. After that the basenji can run freely in the house until it needs to go again, which for some really young puppies can be as often as every hour, but later as they age. Keep a close eye on your pet to let them out when they really need to go.

Labrador retrievers, as their name indicates, were bred to retrieve things. However, most people think of them today as retrieving sticks, or other similar objects. In reality, they were originally bred to help fishermen by retrieving fishing nets!

There are several factors you need to keep in mind while crate training your basenji: Only use the crate when you are going to be home for the entire time of confinement. Basenjis are social creatures, and you should never have them in a closed crate more than two hours, or while you're away from home--even if it's only for a short time. Don't put the crate away from everyone. Basenjis want to be part of the family, so even in a crate they will be much happier in a room full of people than off to the side when they can't see anyone. After your basenji is successfully housebroken, remove the door from the crate. Now your basenji has its own private space and can come and go in the house as it pleases.

In the original 101 Dalmatians movie, Pongo has 72 spots, Perdita has 68 and each of the puppies has 32. Real dalmations have unique numbers and patterns of spots, almost like a human beigns fingerprint.

If you keep these tips in mind and put in the due diligence the first couple months to get your basenji on the right track, you will not only have a well trained house pet, but will save yourself more time in training and re-training. Done effectively, crate training is the perfect way to train your pet to be a part of the family.

The diminutive tibetan spaniel, with his feather-like tail, may look a bit like other spaniels, but the breed is actually not a spaniel at all, but more closely related to some combination of the shih tzu, pug, pekingese and Japanese chin.

Pekingese dogs were sacred to the emperors of China for more than 2,000 years. They are one of the oldest breeds of dogs in the world. Commoners in Imperial China were forbidden to own Pekingese dogs.
