Important Tips on How to Care for Your Basenji

Bringing that puppy home from the pet store or the DOG pound is only the beginning to a long and hopefully enjoyable relationship between you and your new best friend. However, there are many things to consider when it comes to raising a basenji, and one of the most important aspects of basenji ownership is the health and proper care of your basenji.

Many people think that the kerry blue terrier is the national dog of Ireland. Actually, the Irish government never has given this designation to any breed. Michael Collins, one of Irelands most famous patriots, introduced legislation to elevate the Kerry Blue, or the Irish Blue Terrier as they were then called, to the national dog of Ireland. After his murder, the interest in the initiative was lost.

Begin with the essentials: diet, bedding and housebreaking, if your pet is going to be an inside basenji, and proper obedience so that you can take your basenji for walks which will provide sensory and muscular stimulation.

The largest breed of dog that is recognized by the American Kennel Club is the Irish Wolfhound, which stands thirty to 30 to 35 inches at the top of the shoulders and weighs 105 to 125 pounds.

When it comes to feeding your new puppy or DOG, ensure that you are feeding him the proper kinds of food for his age. Puppy kibbles have different nutrients in them than kibbles for adult or older basenjis, so make sure you read labels and keep in mind the size and condition of your basenjis teeth when shopping for DOG foods. Small DOGS need small pieces of kibbles or DOG food, while larger DOGS can accommodate the larger offerings. With recent scares over the pet food industry, many basenji owners are opting to prepare homemade meals for their basenjis.

The name bernese mountain dog is a rough translation of the German "berner sennenhund", which literally means "bernese alpine herdsman's dog". The breed's original name was "durrbachler", after an inn where these farm dogs were bought and sold.

If you choose to do this, provide your basenji with a balanced diet combination of proteins, vegetables and grains.

Bloodhounds have dewlaps. What are dewlaps? They are strange looking, pendulous folds of skin on the back of the neck. They don't seem to serve any useful purpose to the bloodhound, but are rather interesting to look at.

Bedding is another consideration, depending on whether your basenji is to be an inside or an outside basenji, or both. Small DOGS seem to prefer baskets made of wicker to sleep in, while larger DOGS will prefer large, rectangular pillows. Some may stick their noses up at those and head for the nearest chair instead. If that doesn't bother you, great! If it does, try to keep your basenji to one specific chair and cover it with a blanket if desired. If your basenji is to be outside, either build him a basenjihouse or at least provide him with shelter in case of inclement weather.

A DOG collar and license and identification tag should be your next order of business, as it is much easier to find your basenji in the event he gets out of the yard if he's licensed. You can also procure DOG I.D. tags at most local retail grocery and pet stores. Make sure you include the basenjis name, address and phone number.

The bedlington terrier, a large, unique looking breed, is often described as looking like a lamb on a leash. This is probably because it has fur with a wooly texture. As a result of this fur type, the bedlington does not shed.

Another important factor to consider is whether your basenji is going to be left alone for long periods of time, while parents are at work and kids are in school. Basenjis get bored too, so try to provide chew toys or other items that will keep your basenji happy and entertained until you get home.

While adult dalmations are covered in cute black spots, dalmation puppies are actually born solid white. Their spots don't show up until they are at least a week old. Sometimes not until they are a month old.

Owning a basenji can be one a great joy, but it also comes with a fair share of responsibility. Your basenji is a valuable extension of the family, so make sure he's as well taken care of as any other member of your family.

The tibetan terrier is not a true terrier and is probably more closely related to the lhasa apso. However, the tibetan terrier is indeed from Tibet, where monks once treasured this intelligent breed of dogs as guardians of their temples.
