Is it Safe for a Basenji to Sniff Another Basenji's Poop?

Needless to say, many basenji owners may not be particularly fond of discussing the subject of their basenji sniffing another basenji's poop, but concerns over health often force the topic into the open. Sure, it's not the most pleasant aspect of basenji ownership, but it happens to involve every basenji owner, whether they admit it in public or not!

Yorkshire terriers are very tenacious. In fact, A 12-pound Yorkshire Terrier named Oliver once defended an elderly woman from an 80-pound Akita. The woman escaped to safety and Oliver the yorkie survived with only nine stitches.

While merely sniffing another basenji's poop may not be inherently dangerous to your basenji, eating another basenji's poop, called coprophagia, is another matter entirely. While the idea is repugnant to humans, this behavior in basenjis is rather common. After all, a basenji has increased senses, and through the smelling of another basenji's poop, may be able to identify what that basenji has eaten, when, and whether or not it may taste good.

The Skye Terrier's origins are connected with a centuries old shipwreck. Early in the 1600's a Spanish ship wrecked on the Island of Skye in the Scottish Hebrides. Some of the survivors of the shipwreck were Maltese dogs that mated with the local terriers, creating a new and unique breed.

Dogs mark their territory, so when they come across another basenji's pile of poop, it's perfectly natural for them to identify what the substance is. If they are hungry, and you are not feeding your basenji adequately, they may even take a taste or two. If a basenji's body craves for nutrients that the diet you are feeding him does not address, the problem may grow worse.

The Lowchen, a small, somewhat rare breed of dog, is native to France. It's called "petit chien lion" or, "little lion dog". This is due to its fur growth, as it resembles the mane of a lion.

The best thing for basenji owners to do to prevent such situations is to pick up after their basenjis, both at home and when they take them out for a walk. Basenjis will sniff anything, just to figure out what it is, so why is another basenji's poop any different? Basenji owners should not be alarmed at this type of territorial behavior, but they can take measures to avoid the next step in the process, which may be your basenji's ingesting the fecal matter.

The official record for the heaviest dog was set way back in 1989. The dog in question was an English mastiff named Zorba. At the time, he weighed 343 pounds. He was 8 years old when he was weighed.

Make sure your basenji is healthy, fed a well-balanced, nutritional diet and is kept amused and entertained. Bored or anxious basenjis are more likely to be attracted to sniffing, and eating, another basenji's poop, than one who is mentally and physically stimulated and active. When walking your basenji, make sure you distract him or her when you notice a pile of poop just waiting for inspection. Praise your basenji when he responds appropriately to your commands of 'no', or 'leave it' or other sounds of warning. Never punish your basenji for being inquisitive, as curiosity is as natural to them as it is to humans.

Male Irish wolfhounds are usually at least 32 to 34 inches tall and females are usually around 30 inches tall. This makes the Irish wolfhound the tallest breed. Although a few other dogs, such as the great dane, come close to equalling that height.

If your basenji continuously smells other basenji's poop, try changing your walking route to a cleaner path. If such a consideration isn't possible, ask your vet for some spray that you might carry with you that will discourage your basenji from smelling or eating any poop you find on your walks. Hot sauce is also good at keeping basenjis from eating poop, though they may get away with it the first time. The second time, however, the taste of the sauce may be repugnant enough for them to avoid further sniffing.

The Giant Schnauzer is known in german as "Riesenschnauzer", meaning "the giant". It should closely resemble the other Schnauzers, miniature and standard. However, they are really completely unique and unrelated breeds. They have just developed in such a way, over time, that they look similar to each other.

The best thing a basenji owner can do is to feed basenjis adequate nutrients in their diet. Clean up after your basenji and give them plenty of stimulation and exercise. After all, no one wants to talk about his or her basenji smelling another basenji's poop!

The phalne is essentially the same thing as a papillon, except that it has dropped spaniel-like ears. within the first couple of months after birth the ears will either lay flat or raise up permanently. The AKC considers the Phalne and the Papillon to be the same breed.
