Popular Basenji Gifts

The joy of owning a basenji provides owners with a number of opportunities to provide entertainments for their pets. Popular basenji gifts are as varied as the types of DOG breeds out there. Some basenjis like to chew, some like to fetch, and some like to play with people toys as much as those special balls and chews you bought for them at the local pet store.

The Schipperke, or "little captain", is generally thought of as being solid black in the USA. However, they do actually come in other colors. The reason they are commonly thought to only be black, is that the black variety is the only type currently recognized by the AKC.

When shopping for basenji gifts, whether for your basenji or for someone else's, keep in mind the size and breed of DOG you are shopping for. Some of the most popular toys on the market today are edible chews, like rawhide bones, moccasins and balls as well as pig's ears. Some believe that such toys are dangerous for basenjis, while others feel just the opposite.

The bichon frise breed is quite old. Originally they used to belong only to kings and queens. However, eventually they became known for their abilty to learn tricks and for their excellent sense of balance. As a result, they gained a reputation for being excellent as circus dogs.

Christmas time provides a wealth of ideas for basenji gifts, and many stores carry Christmas Basenjigie Stockings filled to overflowing with toys, balls, chews, stuffed animals and DOG biscuits and cookies. While this may be great for some basenjis, others will merely glance at the assortment and turn away. What gives? You've tried the hard toys, more commonly found in shapes from bones to balls. But have you tried a Kong? This is a hollow toy that may come in various shapes. Placing a tasty treat inside will keep your basenji happily occupied for hours!

The American Kennel Club recognizes more than 150 breeds? Segmented into seven different breed types, all breed possess unique temperaments, physical characteristics as well as a rich background in history.

Nylon chew toys are also popular, but make sure that you keep an eye on the condition of any toy you give your basenji to make sure he can't swallow it or small pieces won't come off to offer a potential choke hazard. If you have a picky basenji, or one that's just spoiled rotten already, why not think of another way to offer your basenji a gift of entertainment that will not only stimulate them, but provide healthful benefits as well?

Labrador retrievers, as their name indicates, were bred to retrieve things. However, most people think of them today as retrieving sticks, or other similar objects. In reality, they were originally bred to help fishermen by retrieving fishing nets!

Did you know that many basenji owners regularly take their basenjis to a spa for massages and grooming? Sure, this may cost a little more than your typical basenjigie haircut, but you know how nice it feels to be pampered once in a while. In addition to the bath and grooming, massage works wonders for basenjis muscles, circulation and well being.

Many people think that the kerry blue terrier is the national dog of Ireland. Actually, the Irish government never has given this designation to any breed. Michael Collins, one of Irelands most famous patriots, introduced legislation to elevate the Kerry Blue, or the Irish Blue Terrier as they were then called, to the national dog of Ireland. After his murder, the interest in the initiative was lost.

Dogs are also fond of balls, Frisbees and ordinary objects left lying around, so make sure that you don't leave anything within reach of a new puppy or small DOG that you don't want damaged! Puppies love to latch onto anything while they're teething, so providing them something to chew on besides your favorite shoes will keep everyone happy.

The diminutive tibetan spaniel, with his feather-like tail, may look a bit like other spaniels, but the breed is actually not a spaniel at all, but more closely related to some combination of the shih tzu, pug, pekingese and Japanese chin.

Buying basenji gifts and toys can be fun, inexpensive and entertaining for your basenji, but again, just make sure that the toy or gift you bring home is age and size appropriate, just like you do for your kids. After all, your basenji is part of your family too.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the longest lived dog was an Australian Cattle Dog named Bluey. The dog lived to be 29. This case was considered unusual since smaller dogs generally live longer. The chihuahua is actually the breed that tends to live the longest.
